630 kilometres from Ingolstadt and midway between Budapest and Vienna lies Györ, on the banks of the Danube. With a population of 130,000 it is the sixth-largest city in Hungary.
It enjoys a favourable geographical location, close to the point where Hungary, Slovakia and Austria all meet. Another big advantage is the presence of local industries such as mechanical engineering, plastics processing and construction. Between 1993 and the end of 2007, the 1,671,000 square metre plant turned out a total of 1,913,053 engines.
Vehicle assembly operations started in 1998 with the Audi TT. The new versions of the Audi TT Coupé and Audi TT Roadster have been built at Györ since 2006, with the Audi A3 Cabriolet joining the production range in November 2007. Audi Hungaria has also been making body components for the Audi RS 6 and Audi R8 on a small scale since 2008.
