The Neckarsulm plant is the largest employer in the burgeoning Heilbronn-Franconia region, with 13,369 employees (as at December 31, 2007). As at the end of 2007, Audi employed 813 apprentices there. The site covers an area of around one million square metres, equivalent to 140 football pitches.
Neckarsulm manufactures one of the widest ranges of products of all Volkswagen and Audi plants: as well as the Audi A8 and Audi A6 car lines, the volume model Audi A4 has been built at Neckarsulm since October 2007. The sports models Audi S6 and Audi S8 as well as the Audi A6 allroad quattro and heavily and lightly armoured vehicles are also manufactured there.
